When I was a child, I was wary of dogs. I would keep my distance, never feeling a connection; something that stayed with me as I grew into an adult.

Meeting my partner Jon changed all that. He had a natural rapport with dogs and encouraged me to let them come to me. I slowly gained confidence and began to see what I had been missing for so long. When I moved to rural North Wales with Jon and started my full-time career as an artist, I found myself drawn to painting working sheepdogs, especially Border Collies.

One day, a farmer came into my gallery. Our conversation about my sheepdog paintings led to an invitation to her farm. The visit transformed my understanding and appreciation of the sheepdog. Watching those dogs at work, I was captivated by their agility, grace, intelligence, and the gentle care they showed the sheep.

Each dog had its own character, I remember one who was the matriarch to the other dogs, and another who patiently hid under a trailer watching the farmer assist a ewe giving birth. Their gentleness around the new lambs was touching, and the young dogs’ training sessions were a source of endless fascination.

The farmer’s care for her dogs was obvious and you could feel the bond between them, a bond of loyalty, trust, and companionship. It was a relationship that worked both ways, each dog devoted to their handler and vice versa. It inspired me to capture these moments.

Using oils, I painted in a loose style, focusing on the dogs by leaving empty space around them. I wanted viewers to see the dogs through my eyes, to appreciate their character, whether at work or rest, and feel as if they were there, in the field with me.

Through this collection, I want customers to experience the different aspects of the lives of these remarkable animals.

The Sheepdog Collection

The Sheepdog Collection was inspired by Alison visiting a local farm and observing the dogs in action. She wanted to build a collection of oil paintings that showed the dogs in all their various states as they worked and relaxed.

The compositions Alison chose show the dogs at work and at rest, and demonstrate their remarkable intelligence and agility.

Loyalty and companionship are qualities that the sheepdogs display in abundance, and Alison aims to bring her appreciation of this into your home with this collection of prints. 😊

So, why am I giving my work away for free?

It's a fair question - I'm a full-time professional artist with my own high street gallery for nearly 20 years.

But not everyone can get to my gallery

Customers tell me how my paintings make them feel; calmed, relaxed, absorbed, and I want to bring those feelings to more people. To people all over the world, who might not be able to come to see me in Chester, UK.

"Alison delicately captures a moment in time, the light dancing across its subject. Whatever appears on the canvas - mountain, coastline, bustling street, or a farmer and his dog - Alison's real subject is the light."

My Customers Say...

"I have, in the past, bought a couple of Alison Bradley prints, which are fantastic. However on this visit Alison was in the gallery and I was able to talk with her about her paintings and in particular the location of the print I was buying this time. Alison was very approachable and gave advice concerning the frame and how to match or positively mismatch the surround with other furnishings. The print and its frame go perfectly in my living room. Gallery well worth a visit and even if you can't afford an original painting , the signed prints are well worth buying."

Stephanie

"This superb gallery is well worth a visit. It has many excellent pieces from an obviously talented artist. I highly recommend it, and I look forward to going again soon and making some purchases. Well done!."

John

"Alison was very helpful and got it spot-on. The Chester gallery and Alison's art are well worth a visit."

Anon

"I've visited this gallery on several occasions now & have a growing collection of Alison's wonderful art works. I love the colours used in her mountain works. The gallery staff are very helpful. Well worth a visit."

About Alison

Alison works with her partner Jon Davies who takes care of digital printing, picture framing, marketing, and business management. Alison Bradley Gallery opened in 2008 in Betws-y-coed - the gateway to Snowdonia and home of Britain’s first Artists’ Colony from 1844 to 1914. In 2016 this was joined by a second gallery in the heart of historic Chester City Centre, then in 2019 Alison and Jon left Betws-y-coed and moved permanently to Chester.
